There are moments in life that change everything.
Like many of my generation, I believed that with a good education I could secure a good job with a good company and be set for life. With my University degree in Engineering, I did indeed secure a well-paid role and a future with Canada's largest telephone company, and I advanced steadily.
However, what I gave up was time with my growing family — something which I regret to this day.
“The children have stopped asking when is Daddy coming home?”
Those words from my wife Kathy hit me like a glass of cold water. At that moment, I vowed to find a new role which would give me more time with my family, while not taking a cut in my income.
I didn't actually find it until years later, when a family friend introduced us to the idea of working from home, in hours which suited me and gave me back the time I so desperately wanted with my family, with support from Forever Living.
Doing the due diligence
I won't pretend that changing direction relatively late in life was a completely smooth transition. With my Engineering background, I did my due diligence on the company and its business model. I liked the fact that it was family owned and that its philosophy resonated with the kind of life we wanted to build.
I was particularly inspired by the vision attributed to Forever founder Rex Maughan: to provide an opportunity for people to be in business for themselves, earn their own money and live their lives with dignity.
So Kathy and I got started and set about learning how to become successful Forever Business Owners. We made lots of mistakes but kept going. We learned that consistency and patience are essential, and that it helps to “touch your business every day” in even the smallest way.
Within 15 months, we were making enough money for me to give up my day job, and our business has grown ever since.
What matters now
Today, LifeCare is an extension of that journey. We remain passionate and enthusiastic about life and about helping family, friends and people we have yet to meet to be the best that they can be, through the products and business opportunity we offer.
We hope that when people meet us, they feel encouraged, supported and valued — and that they leave with a clearer idea of what their next positive step might be.
